Are thigh holsters better than belt holsters?

Les holsters de cuisse sont-ils mieux que ceux de ceinture ? - Welkit

Thigh Holster vs. Belt Holster

Many customers ask us this question in our stores. It is difficult to answer because it is truly a matter of personal preference. Nevertheless, thanks to your numerous testimonials and feedback, we have been able to list some characteristics to consider if you are facing the same dilemma: thigh holster or belt holster?

Strengths:

Positioning is probably the most significant advantage of thigh holsters. When worn correctly, they allow for an instinctive movement: the hand naturally comes to rest on the side of the weapon. Belt holsters require the wearer to position their arm higher, and even higher to draw the weapon. This kind of movement, in addition to being slower, can become complicated in a high-stress situation with close contact. Moreover, if the wearer is injured in the arm, it is almost impossible for them to reach their weapon with the opposite arm. And yes, while it is feasible to grab a weapon positioned on your right thigh with your left hand (go ahead, try it!), it is a bit more difficult with a belt holster positioned on the right. This is especially true for people with a larger build.

Another advantage is the weight. If you are already wearing a tactical belt filled with gear, you might one day experience back or hip pain due to the heavy load. Redistributing the weight and placing some on the thigh will reduce the mass around your waist. Obviously, this also frees up space and gives you the possibility to carry additional gear on your belt!

Weaknesses:

Thigh holsters are also more accessible... to your attacker. Indeed, a belt holster forces the attacker to get very close to you, allowing you to block them quickly. The thigh holster is a bit easier to access and less easy to protect. Additionally, thigh holsters can sometimes interfere with the simplest but essential movements in the life of a police officer or soldier. For example, it might hinder you when driving a vehicle, get caught in fences, or bother you while running.

As you can see, there is no miracle solution. It is a matter of personal comfort and preference. We hope these few tips will help you choose the holster that suits you best. Feel free to share your experiences in the comments!
