Product Test for the Police: First Tactical's Small Duty Light
Article published on PoliceMag.com
If there is one thing I have learned in the past twelve years in law enforcement, it is the importance of having multiple flashlights. If you only have one, there will inevitably be a time when it is dead or out of reach. And of course, it’s always when you need it! That’s why I stash flashlights pretty much everywhere, in every nook and cranny of my gear. This includes my belts, bags, cars, or firearm holsters. This doesn’t mean you have to rush out and spend a fortune on the latest flashlights hoping to get something solid. Over the years, flashlight technology has made tremendous advances. Nowadays, the light is brighter, clearer, and cheaper than before.
And here is the Small Duty Light from First Tactical
This small tactical flashlight made of anodized aluminum weighs around one hundred grams, with batteries that provide a very clear light of 161 lumens. It measures about ten centimeters long and about two and a half centimeters wide. It is therefore small enough to hide anywhere, and just wide enough to fill the palm for a solid grip. At its lowest intensity, the SLD (Spectrometry with Luminescent Discharge) delivers a light of 15 lumens, which is sufficient for administrative tasks requiring close lighting. The best part? The SLD operates with a standard AA battery, which eliminates the need to purchase those expensive CR123 lithium batteries.
The Small Duty Light tactical flashlight comes with a few accessories that make it a versatile light. The sturdy pocket clip is reversible, allowing the pocket to be oriented up or down. This not only allows the user to customize how they direct the light but also creates more configuration options with an elastic loop that can wrap around the finger. The loop itself is made from an elastic material passed through an ergonomic plastic ring that is the perfect size and shape for various shooting applications. Finally, the SDL comes with two lenses: one is smooth, to allow it to be carried without snagging, and the other with teeth for use as a defensive tool.
At only 44.95 euros, the Small Duty Light from First Tactical is a versatile and solid flashlight that will meet your expectations without breaking the bank. For this price, you can even get two, allowing you to have one within reach, anywhere, whenever you need it. Go check out this model and many other flashlights on the brand's website First Tactical and of course, on the website of its French distributor, Welkit.
